Mr Paul Arkwright has been appointed British High Commissioner to the
Federal Republic of Nigeria, to succeed Sir Andrew Pocock KCMG, who
will be retiring from the Diplomatic Service soon.
The newly appointed High Commissioner whose full name is Paul Thomas Arkwright, would officially begin work as from September 2015. He is married to Patricia Anne Holland, and their marriage has been blessed with one son and a daughter.
Prior to his appointment as British High Commissioner to Nigeria, he had served in different positions as follows; 2013 – 2015 FCO, Director, Multilateral Policy; 2009 – 2013 The Hague, Her Majesty’s Ambassador; 2006 – 2009 FCO, Head, Counter-Proliferation Department; 2006 FCO Participant in Higher Command and Staff Course, Defence Academy Shrivenham; 2001 – 2005 UKDEL NATO, Political Counsellor; 1998 – 2001 Paris, First Secretary Political; 1997 – 1998 Secondment to Quai d’Orsay, Paris, UN & International Organisations department; 1993 – 1997 UKMis New York, First Secretary Political; 1991 – 1993 FCO, Head of Conventional Arms Section Non Proliferation & Defence Department; 1988 – 1991 British Military Government Berlin (later British Embassy, Berlin Office), Second Secretary Political; and 1987 – 1988 FCO, Desk Officer, Hong Kong Department, respectively. He joined FCO in 1986.
